Iana Salenko
Ukrainian ballet dancer Iana Salenko is a principal dancer with the Berlin State Ballet. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, she trained at the Pisarev Ballet School in Donetsk and graduated in 2000. She began her professional career as a soloist with Donetsk Ballet from 2000 to 2002 before joining the National Opera House of Ukraine as a principal dancer. In 2005, she joined the Berlin State Ballet as a demi-soloist, was promoted to soloist in 2006, and became a principal dancer in 2007.
Her repertoire in Berlin includes leading roles such as Vladimir Malakhov’s Cinderella, Princess Aurora in Malakhov’s The Sleeping Beauty, Marie in Patrice Bart’s The Nutcracker, Olga in John Cranko’s Onegin, Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, Peter Schaufuss’s La Sylphide, and Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet.
She made her debut with The Royal Ballet in 2013 as a Guest Artist, performing Kitri in Don Quixote. Since then, she has returned to The Royal Ballet to dance Kitri and Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Giselle and many others.
She has won numerous prestigious awards, including first prizes at the International Ballet Competitions in Helsinki and Nagoya in 2005. She has been honoured with the title of Berliner Kammertänzerin in 2024. Iana Salenko regularly performs as a guest artist worldwide.
